Did anyone who has read THE NOrthern Lights find the Golden Compass Dissapointing?

I mean the book is called "THe Northern Lights" and yet we see the Aurora only once and thats in a photogram- it's like the main thing!!!...Mrs Coulter is not evil enough and although i know that the ending is strongly linked to the next book, i still think they could have put the proper ending instead of finishing it before they rescued Lord Asriel...anyone else agree/disagree?

I think the special effects are amazing, the CGI and all are great but i think in the future, movies might loose their good storylines and let their amazing special effects compensate...i hope not though...

Also, does anyone else think it was right to swap Bolvangar and Lyra's capture at Svalbard around? cos if it did happen that way, then the armoured bears could have come to fight but they don't so it kind of doesn't follow...

The thing about movies that are based on books is that they are not going to be the books. You have to walk in expecting that.

I felt Nicole Kidman (Mrs. Coulter) was evil enough. In fact, I felt that she was downright scary. That polished smooth facade covered an ambitious woman who would stop at nothing, even striking her own daemon. Which I know wasn't in the book, but it showed her character really well.

I think the reason that they cut off the ending of the movie before the ending of the book was because they want people to go see the next movie. If they showed the ending, because it is such a shock, in waiting for the next movie, they'd remember hating the end, and not see the next one. By waiting until Subtle Knife comes out to pull them in, they'll be in too deep by that point. The movies are much scarier than the books, not because they are different, but because movies are visual.

But the switching between the Svalbard and Bolvanger was a little strained. I wonder how good Subtle Knife is going to be...
