Surgery and Emergency Health Care With No Insurance?

I have no heath insurance and I have no money. (when I say no money, I mean I can't even spare the $40 to go to an Aurora Quick Care kiosk).

I've been sick for 2 weeks now, and I thought it would eventually just go away if I stay at home, drink pleanty of fluids, ect ect. The problem now is that one of my tonsils has swollen up so big that i can't swallow anything solid... It's also making it incredibly difficult to breathe.

What to I do? I know I'm probably going to end up having to have my tonsils removed, but I've been turned away from medical attention before.

Please... 'Just go see a doctor' isn't going to cut it. What do you do if you don't have health insurance and you need a major procedure done?

I definitely understand where you're coming from because I don't have any insurance either :-( Here's what I do to avoid heavy hospital bills: DONT go to the Emergency Room...instead you should go to a local clinic or a Minute Clinic (in most drug stores now). They may be able to give you better advice about options outside of a huge medical procedure. If there is the need of a prescription always ask if they have any sample packs of the meds or if there's an over-the-counter med that does the same thing. Unfortunately if you need a major procedure like that done you will probably have to pay out of pocket since you don't have insurance. For future issues not as serious as this one, I would also suggest getting some home remedies. There are many online sources for this and they can knock out your illness before it gets serious. For instance, if you start to get a cold drink a little gin or whiskey or make a tonic with part gin or whiskey and lemon juice.
