If you have electric fans buy new ones... Did you check to see if the antifreeze is full... The clutch fan is broken -- buy a new one or change to a Flex fan---only if you have a fan that is whirling around by belts... (not an electric fan))) Radistor is clogged with leaves and sticks. Radiator needs to be cleaned out--take it to the radiator shop... It is a 95 these parts been in the car for 12 years...
It could be air bubbles in the system, it also could be some type of engine damage, like a leak in the head gasket.
But it is hard to tell, first you have to check your water level.
Rest of the job you need to let a garage take care of, due to some special tools.
there is one other thing that some people over look and it is usually the last thing checked. worst case could be a cracked head where the water is getting heated by the detonation in the cylinder and transfers the heat through the engine does the car over heat less when u are driving a steady 45-50 and does it heat up more at in town driving assuming the fans are still working that is an indication that the head may be cracked u can purchase a compression tester for 20 bucks or so at most auto parts stores hope u get it figured out
The fans will come on even if the car is off and is most of the time normal but it could be the radiator, if there is a clog or old the whole radiator is not being used.
thermostat, lower radiator hose could be suckin shut, low coolant, clogged radiator, airflow to radiator obstruction, bad heater hose, could have an airlock after water pump replacement.
nothing is more annoying than a car that runs hot. Did the person who put in the new water pump change the thermostat at the same time? I would hope so since the thermostat housing is just above the water pump. Changing the thermostat is the next
least expensive fix. After that, I would take the radiator off and have a shop clean it out. Why did you put on a new water pump? Was the bearing out? Or was it the suspect for the car overheating in the first place?
Your thermostat could be stuck closed not letting water by, or your radiator might not be circulating properly. I would drain the radiator and then refill it with fresh antifreeze, make sure you reserve tank is topped off.
Then take it for a spin and see if it's still running hot, then if it is check the thermostat, and then make sure the radiator is circulating right.
