Can you give me examples of natural phenomena and their supernatural explanations?

I鈥檝e asked this in another section and didn鈥檛 get as many replies as I hoped for so I鈥檓 trying again.

I鈥檓 looking for things in the lines of that Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a pathway for souls or that rainbow are the bridge to the realms of the gods.

I鈥檓 also looking for natural phenomena that aren鈥檛 common knowledge, as an example I just heard of white rainbows created by mist.

My hope is to find natural phenomena that can be explained today that caused speculation and 鈥渕ystical鈥?explanations before people knew the truth.

I鈥檓 asking because I鈥檓 writing a fairytale for my son and I need ideas of natural phenomena that I can use for the story. He鈥檚 a bright young man (I鈥檓 his mother and I can say that without blushing) and I鈥檇 like to find things that I can use to challenge him to think deeper and more critically about things.
