Hello, my wife and I moved into this house 4 years ago and noticed a big birds nest (about 3 ft high) in the attic along an outside wall. I removed the nest right away, and left the insulation alone. Now I've gone back up in the attic and noticed there is sticks, twigs, crap from the original nest imbedded into the insulation on the attic floor. How do I get this removed with making a mess? Do I also need to get the area where the nest was sterlized? If someone can help, and help get this done I live in zip code 60506 (Aurora, IL). Thanks.

The twigs and stuff won't affect the insulation's R value so don't worry about that.
The major thing you have to worry about is lice and disease carrying organisms in the droppings they left behind. I'd saturate it with Lysol spray and call an exterminator to spray for lice.

I wouldn't worry about it at all.
Add some snakes.
